At the age of 23 as a senior in college, he plead guilty to vehicular manslaughter after causing a tragic boating accident that killed his friend. He was sentenced to serve 2-6 years in prison. While in prison, he accepted full responsibility for the accident and for his alcohol abuse and vowed to repurpose his life to one of sobriety, contribution, and redemption.
